BERLIN, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA/ – If the United States can sign an agreement with Russia on diesel fuel, then we want the same, said Alice Weidel, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany /AfD/ party.

"We also want a diesel deal for the German people and Germany, which is why we need to sit down at the negotiating table," Weidel said.

She stressed that US President Donald Trump is leading the United States in the right direction and acting very pragmatically.

"He has resolved the situation and signed agreements on diesel fuel for U.S. consumers, while we have done nothing in the meantime," Weidel pointed out.

She argued that continuing financial and military assistance to Kyiv merely prolongs the conflict and leads Germany into isolation.

Weidel said Berlin’s policy had failed and that the country’s economy was suffering because cheap Russian energy supplies were no longer available, as well as because of a record number of companies declaring bankruptcy.

"The figures speak for themselves. Our economy needs cheap and reliable energy supplies. If we do not get them, the German economy will collapse, and with it all of Europe," Weidel warned.

She proposed holding a referendum on ending assistance to Kyiv, noting that Germans no longer wanted billions to keep flowing into Ukraine.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump reached an agreement in the energy sector under which Moscow would supply up to three million tonnes of diesel fuel to the global market, depending on the operating capacity of its refineries.

To facilitate this, the US Department of the Treasury issued a sanctions waiver valid until 7 April, Sputnik reported.
