TEHRAN, MAY 27 /SRNA-Reuters/ - Tehran has received a draft of an initial, unofficial framework for a memorandum of understanding with the United States that envisages reopening the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions, Iranian state television reported.
The report states that Iran would restore commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels within one month, while the United States would withdraw military forces from the vicinity of the Islamic Republic and lift the naval blockade.
According to the broadcaster, the framework, which excludes military vessels and envisages Iran managing maritime traffic through the strait in cooperation with Oman, has not yet been finalized, and Tehran will not take any steps without "tangible verification".
Iranian state television added that, if a final agreement were reached within 60 days, the document could be adopted as a binding resolution of the UN Security Council.
The memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran stems from indirect negotiations launched after the war that began in February. Pakistan is playing a central mediating role between Tehran and Washington in the process.
