SCOTLAND, WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND CALL FOR INDEPENDENCE REFERENDUM

CARDIFF, SEPTEMBER 14 /SRNA/ – Leaders of the governing parties in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have signed a joint declaration calling on the British Government to organise independence referendums, saying that Westminster’s time is coming to an end.

The leaders of the Scottish National Party, John Swinney, the Welsh party Plaid Cymru, Rhun ap Iorwerth, and Northern Ireland’s Sinn Féin, Michelle O’Neill, who also head the devolved governments within the United Kingdom, signed a document that could pave the way toward independence.

The leaders published the declaration during a meeting in Cardiff.

“We believe there is a better way for nations to work together as equal partners, sharing ideas and expertise and building relationships based on mutual respect and common interests. Our movements have gained momentum,” the joint statement said.

It adds that constitutional changes lie ahead.

Their initiative represents a significant moment for the United Kingdom at a time of recent political instability and carries the risk of the breakup of a country that has existed since the Acts of Union of 1707.
