ORBAN: COMMON FOREIGN POLICY MEANS GIVING UP SOVEREIGNTY

BUDAPEST, SEPTEMBER 14 /SRNA/ - Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Brussels’ insistence on a common EU foreign policy, particularly regarding relations with Russia, means losing sovereignty.

"Brussels’ language is misleading. You hear the catchy phrase `common foreign policy` and get a false impression of solidarity within the Union," Orban said in a video message posted on X.

He stressed that EU member states do not need a common foreign policy because their interests are not always shared.

"Our interests are not the interests of France or Germany, and certainly not the interests of Brussels. We do not need a conflict with Russia," Orban said.

According to him, declaring Russia a threat when you have good cooperation with that country is absurd.

“We do not need instructions from Brussels. Blindly following them would mean giving up sovereignty,” Orban concluded.
