AT LEAST 20 DETAINED DURING PROTESTS IN AHTENS AND THESSALONIKI

ATHENS, OCTOBER 21 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - Greek police detained 20 people during students and education workers protests in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki this week, the Skai broadcaster reported.

RIA Novosti noted that education workers and school students protested across Greece on Tuesday. Educators demanded higher salaries and better working conditions, while students demanded more adequate funding for education and better maintenance.

Nearly 2,500 people reportedly took part in the demonstration in Thessaloniki and 1,500 in Athens. Around 3,000 police officers have been deployed in Athens due to the protests, with several streets in the center of Athens and Thessaloniki closed.
