WOMAN PULLED ALIVE FROM RUINS 11 DAYS AFTER FLOODS

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 5 /SRNA/ - A 60-year-old woman has been rescued alive from the rubble of a four-storey building 11 days after catastrophic floods hit Nepal's Nuwakot district, local media report.

Chandika Shrestha was found unconscious on the upper floor of a house in Betravati and was rescued by a nine-member police team, The Kathmandu Post reported.

After the rescue, Shrestha was airlifted to a Nepal Army barracks in Trishuli for medical treatment.

"She will be taken to Kathmandu for further treatment if necessary," the Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement.

The rescue followed 11 days after the floods, which killed more than 1,300 people and left around 5,000 missing.

The flash floods were caused by an avalanche of ice and rocks near the border between Nepal and China's Tibet region on August 26.
