BUCHAREST, OCTOBER 23 /SRNA/ – At least one crew member was killed and three are missing after an unmanned aerial vehicle attacked a ship off the coast of Romania, Romanian President Nicusor Dan said.
"An unmanned aerial vehicle attacked a ship this morning about 20 kilometers off the coast, not far from Romanian territorial waters. The Coast Guard rescued nine sailors, but, unfortunately, one sailor was killed and three are still missing," Dan said.
Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs said the ship had sustained significant damage and was taking on water, raising fears that it could sink.
Politico reported that this was the latest in a series of drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
Over the past month, drones have attacked several cargo ships and chemical tankers near Romania and Bulgaria, with more than 20 people killed in the explosions.
