WASHINGTON CONSIDERS AI OVERSIGHT BODY

WASHINGTON, JULY 18 /SRNA–RIA Novosti/ – The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the creation of an independent regulatory body to assess the safety of artificial intelligence models, Bloomberg portal reported, citing sources.

According to the sources, the new body would be modelled after the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority /FINRA/ and would operate under the oversight of the US Securities and Exchange Commission /SEC/.

The proposal was prepared by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and is currently under review by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

One source said President Trump has not yet reviewed the proposal.

The new mechanism would give industry representatives a greater role in jointly developing safety standards for artificial intelligence systems.

Bloomberg portal added that the plan was drafted after executives from several major technology companies expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as unpredictable measures by US authorities to regulate the development and deployment of advance pp AI systems.
