TRAFFIC THROUGH STRAIT OF HORMUZ HAS ALMOST COME TO A HALT

LONDON, JULY 9 /SRNA/ - Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was almost completely halted today after the United States carried out attacks on Iran for the second consecutive day, Bloomberg reported.

According to vessel-tracking data, most ship movements were taking place along the shipping lane closer to the Iranian coast, and the corridor through Oman's waters, backed by the United States, remained largely devoid of traffic.

Among the larger vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, only one supertanker under United States sanctions was observed leaving the Persian Gulf, along with a container ship sailing under the Iranian flag.

The disruption in maritime traffic followed a series of Iranian attacks on commercial vessels, which the American side viewed as the trigger for the latest military operations.

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the ceasefire with Iran had come to an end.

Only 14 cargo vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in both directions yesterday, the lowest number since the temporary agreement between Washington and Tehran was reached in mid-June.

Data from Kpler indicated that the average daily transit over the last three weeks was 34 vessels, with a peak of 59 crossings recorded on June 24.
