ZAFRANOVIĆ: FILM THE CHILDREN OF KOZARA – A CRY THAT THE EVIL OF JASENOVAC MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN

TREBINJE, AUGUST 24 /SRNA/ - The film “The Golden Cut 42 – The Children of Kozara,” about the suffering of the people of Kozara in the Jasenovac concentration camp, is uncompromising and even brutal because it represents a kind of cry that such a horror should never happen again, the film’s director, Lordan Zafranović, said in Trebinje on Monday evening.

Zafranović said that in the film he insisted on telling the truth about the suffering of the people of Kozara and about Jasenovac, a death camp that was one of the most brutal, seeking in this way to help audiences in the region and around the world see what happened there.

“The film The Children of Kozara is truthful, uncompromising and, at times, brutal, just as that period was,” Zafranović told reporters before the start of the Evening of Words and Truth event in Trebinje, which was dedicated to him as one of the most significant figures in Yugoslav and European cinema.

Zafranović said that this is a contemporary film with a historical foundation, which speaks about the state of mind today through the lens of a historical horror that took place.

He added that there is still tension and unprecedented hatred in the Balkans today, which is dangerous and could once again bring great tragedies to Europe as a whole, which has turned towards the revision of the past.

“That film is a kind of cry against the horror that happened, and that repeats itself every 20 to 30 years, like cycles of evil,” Zafranović said.

He noted that the film is a brutal attempt to warn that something happened there and that it could happen again because hatred is growing.
