GRUSHKO: EU WILL REGRET TURNING AWAY FROM RUSSIAN GAS

VLADIVOSTOK, SEPTEMBER 5 /SRNA/ — The European Union will regret its decision to ban purchases of Russian once the measure takes effect, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has stated.

Grushko said gas remains in high demand around the world and that Russia maintains strong business ties with many countries.

"Our gas will remain in demand, and the EU will regret it," Grushko told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

The EU Council previously adopted a regulation on the gradual phase-out of imports of Russian liquefied natural gas and pipeline gas.

The ban on imports under short-term contracts took effect on April 25, 2026, while the ban under long-term contracts will take effect on January 1, 2027.
