GENEVA, AUGUST 29 /SRNA/ — The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been without external electricity supply for more than seven days and is currently relying on backup diesel generators, International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/ Director General Rafael Grossi said.

Grossi wrote on X that the plant has been forced to use generators "for basic nuclear safety functions."

He stressed that it is necessary to ensure that the nuclear plant has sufficient diesel fuel available.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is the largest in Europe, and it requires an external electricity supply to operate the cooling systems of its six nuclear reactors.
