GROSSI OPTIMISTIC ABOUT HIS BID TO BECOME NEXT UN SECRETARY-GENERAL

VIENNA, SEPTEMBER 7 /SRNA- RIA Novosti/ - International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/ Director General Rafael Grossi said he was optimistic about his candidacy for the position of UN Secretary-General.

Grossi is one of the leading candidates for the position, which has been held by António Guterres since 2017. Guterres' second five-year term expires on December 31.

"I remain very optimistic," Grossi stressed in response to a journalist's question about the progress of his campaign.

According to him, the procedure for selecting the UN Secretary-General is underway, and countries are currently deciding on their candidates through consultations.
