BERLIN, OCTOBER 31 /SRNA/ - Thousands of Germans gathered for a protest in central Berlin organized by the youth-led "Generation Z Takes Control" movement, calling for Chancellor Friedrich Merz to resign, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

"While Merz is sending billions to Ukraine, my sick mother is not receiving the care she needs," one demonstrator said from the stage near Berlin's iconic Brandenburg Gate.

The demonstrator criticized the federal government's drive towards militarization and its financial and military support for Ukraine. Other demonstrators responded with approving shouts.

A large white banner bearing the words "Merz Must Go" in black letters was unfurled at the rally.

According to the organizers' estimates, several thousand people gathered at the rally in Berlin. Similar protests were held today in more than 30 German cities.

More than 177,000 people registered to take part in protests across the country, with the largest rallies expected in Cologne and Frankfurt am Main.

The demonstrators are calling for education reform, measures to curb the rising cost of living, and the rejection of the reintroduction of compulsory military service in Germany.

The organizers emphasize that the demonstrations are strictly peaceful and non-partisan.
Demonstrators also expressed solidarity with youth protest movements in France, Belgium and Spain.
