DANISH DRAMA "THE UNKNOWN WOMAN" WINS GOLDEN LION

VENICE, SEPTEMBER 12 /SRNA-Reuters/ – Danish drama "The Unknown Woman", directed by May el-Touky, has won the prestigious Golden Lion, the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

El-Touky was the only woman among the directors competing for the festival's top award this year.

Set in the aftermath of the Second World War, the film tells the story of a domestic worker whose past relationship with a German soldier threatens to derail her future.

The lead role is played by Danish actress Mathilde Arcel, who was named best actress at this year's festival.

The Silver Lion went to South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong for Possible Love, a film exploring the long-lasting emotional impact of a controversial labor dispute.

American actor John Malkovich won the best actor award for his portrayal of an ageing, unconventional CIA agent in Wild Horse Nine.
