BUCHAREST, SEPTEMBER 12 /SRNA/ – Around 20,000 people gathered around a table more than five kilometers long in central Bucharest, setting a new Guinness World Record while raising money to build the country's first hospital dedicated to child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dubbed the "Table of Unity", the 5,055-metre-long table stretched along Unirii Boulevard to Constitution Square, in front of the imposing Palace of Parliament.
Organisers from Romanian-based association Bloom the World received a Guinness World Records certificate for the "longest table made from recycled materials".
The table was decorated with flowers and snacks, AP reported.
Joan Brent, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, said from the stage that the record-breaking achievement had been put to good use.
The funds raised will go towards the construction of a 3,900-square-metre psychiatric facility for children in Bucharest.
The hospital is being funded through private donations and sponsorships and is expected to cost around EUR 16.5 million, according to the Metropolis Foundation, which is overseeing the construction project.
