CHINESE ROBOT TIANGONG FASTER THAN USAIN BOLT, RUNS 100 METRES IN 8.64 SECONDS

SHANGHAI, NOVEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - The Chinese humanoid robot Tiangong can run faster than legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, having covered the 100-metre distance in 8.64 seconds, marking a new milestone in the development of robotics technology, Liu Ying, a representative of China at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, told SRNA.

Liu said that the Tiangong robots are part of the Giant Garden exhibition, which attracted considerable attention at this year's World Robot Conference, where visitors were presented with various potential applications of robotics technology.

She pointed out that the Tiangong robot took first place in the large-sized robot category in the 100-metre race, with a time of 8.64 seconds, while the Tiangong Omni robot won the small-sized robot category in the 400-metre race, completing the distance in 45.66 seconds.

"In this exhibition, we can see robots playing the piano, dancing, walking and picking fruit. The humanoid Tiangong robots, developed at the Humanoid Robotics Innovation Centre, established through a joint initiative in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, are attracting particular attention," Liu said.

Visitors also had the opportunity to see a robot capable of jumping vertically to a height of 3.4 metres.

"Last year's winning robot in this discipline jumped 0.95 metres, while this year's result was more than three times higher, demonstrating how rapidly this technology is advancing," said Liu, who is also a member of the staff at the exhibition booth of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area.

She explained that these robots are currently used exclusively for scientific research and commercial purposes and are not intended for sale to individual consumers.

The ninth China International Import Expo opened on Thursday, November 5, and runs until Tuesday, November 10.

The expo has brought together exhibitors from around the world, showcasing the latest achievements in technology, industry, medicine, the automotive sector, and consumer goods.
