BRICS LEADERS GATHER FOR 18TH SUMMIT

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 12 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – The 18th BRICS summit opens in New Delhi today under the title "Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." It is planned to last for two days.

On the first day, BRICS leaders will visit an innovation exhibition and a photography exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the organization. They will also participate in a joint tree-planting ceremony featuring the banyan tree.

On the margins of the first day of the summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold bilateral talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In the evening, BRICS leaders will attend a traditional reception hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BRICS is an intergovernmental grouping founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa joined the group in 2011.

Several more countries joined BRICS from 2024 onwards. This year, India holds the rotating BRICS chairmanship.
