NEW YORK, OCTOBER 28 /SRNA/ – The UN General Assembly adopted a new resolution tonight calling for an end to the US embargo against Cuba.

A total of 130 countries voted in favour of the resolution, which calls on the United States to lift its economic, trade and financial sanctions against Cuba. Seventeen countries voted against it, while 25 abstained.

Support for lifting the embargo has fallen to its lowest level in the past three decades, since such resolutions began being adopted at UN General Assembly sessions.

Over the past several weeks, Havana has accused Washington of launching a diplomatic initiative to pressure other countries into opposing the resolution.

“The world has once again spoken out against the blockade, despite US pressure and blackmail aimed at changing the voting outcome,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel posted on X.
