NEW YORK, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ – Head of the EU Delegation to the UN Stavros Lambrinidis positively assessed the conduct of the general elections in BiH and called for the swift formation of governments, with constructive engagement by local political leaders.
Speaking at a UN Security Council session, he said that the rapid establishment of functional institutions would be in line with the aspirations of the people of BiH to join the EU.
"The EU emphasises that sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order, including the decisions of the Constitutional Court, represent the international face of BiH and must be respected," Lambrinidis said.
He stated that the EU supported the extension of Operation Althea in BiH, which continues to play a key role in supporting the authorities in maintaining a safe and secure environment.
"This mission demonstrates the EU's long-term commitment to BiH," Lambrinidis said.
He said that "reconciliation and good relations in the Western Balkans remain essential for building a common future".
Lambrinidis also said that the EU supports the OHR and the 5+2 agenda, expressing hope that a citizen of an EU member state would soon be appointed as the "new High Representative".
