GENEVA, JUNE 28 /SRNA–RIA Novosti/ – More than 1,300 people have died in Europe since June 21 as a result of extremely high temperatures, World Health Organization /WHO/ Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
"Heat stress is often called the 'silent killer', and homes, workplaces and schools across Europe were not built for these temperatures," Tedros posted on X.
He said Europe is the fastest-warming continent on the planet, with temperatures rising at twice the global average.
"Currently, 150 million people are living in conditions of extreme heat, hundreds have died, schools have been closed, and power grids are under enormous strain," Tedros added.
