BERLIN, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ - Co-chairwoman of the Alternative for Germany /AfD/ party Alice Weidel sharply criticized the energy policy of the German Government headed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, calling for the resumption of Russian gas supplies amid low domestic gas storage levels.

"You decided to give up affordable gas supplied through pipelines from Russia. You allowed the Nord Stream pipeline to be blown up right under your nose, without saying a word or lifting a finger," Weidel said during a debate in the Bundestag, addressing Merz.

According to her, the German Government is not only failing to invest in Germany's energy sector, but is also directing funds from the state budget as a reward to those who endangered it by blowing up Nord Stream, TASS reported.

She warned that Germany's gas reserves are at a record low.

"That is why filling the gas storage facilities must be the top priority. If the winter is cold, we will face the possibility of having to buy gas at astronomical prices or impose consumption restrictions, which would deliver the final, devastating blow to our economy and households," Weidel said.

She added that the German Chancellor was leading the country toward a catastrophic energy supply crisis.
