TEHRAN, OCTOBER 27 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – The Iranian Navy has announced that an oil tanker struck naval mines in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
"Several hours ago, an oil tanker that had switched off its tracking systems and attempted to pass through a prohibited and unsafe area in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz struck naval mines and was damaged, after which a fire broke out on board," the statement said.
The Navy noted that tankers must coordinate their passage with Iran in advance in order to navigate the Strait of Hormuz safely.
Iran has banned passage through the Strait of Hormuz without permission from Tehran, while the USA has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports and coastline.
