HONG KONG, JULY 14 /SRNA–Reuters/ – The strongest typhoon to strike mainland China this year has forced more than 260,000 people to evacuate their homes in the northeastern province of Liaoning, as Typhoon Bavi triggered severe flooding.

Authorities ordered the closure of all schools and educational institutions, while transport in most cities across northeastern China was severely disrupted.

In Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, floodwaters swept away a lighthouse, which was seen floating through inundated streets and passing beneath a bridge, according to footage shared on Chinese social media.

Authorities said heavy rainfall was expected to continue through Tuesday, with torrential downpours forecast in some areas as Typhoon Bavi pulls large amounts of tropical moisture northward across the country
