TRUMP ASKS APPLE MAPS TO RENAME LAKE ONTARIO "LAKE AMERICA"

WASHINGTON, AUGUST 31 /SRNA/ – US President Donald Trump personally asked Apple to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" on its Apple Maps service, US Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum said, Axios reported.

The request came after Google changed the lake’s name on the mobile and desktop versions of its Maps service for users in the United States on Saturday.

On August 27, Trump announced that he was changing the name of the smallest of the five Great Lakes, a move that comes amid an escalating trade dispute with Canada that has led both countries to impose reciprocal tariffs on goods worth billions of dollars.

The US president’s executive order affected the US Board on Geographic Names, which sets standards for official maps of the United States.
