WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ – US President Donald Trump said that the Alternative for Germany /AfD/ achieved a major victory in the elections in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
“The populist party in Germany just had a great night. They have finally had enough of the absolutely horrible immigration rules and regulations that have done so much harm to Germany. They are on the rise and will no longer tolerate it,” Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform.
AfD won a record 43.8 percent of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, more than double its result in 2021, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union /CDU/ won 17.2 percent.
The election was held on Sunday, September 6.
This is the first time since World War II that a far-right party in Germany has emerged as the strongest political force at the state level.
