LONDON, OCTOBER 28 /SRNA/ – European gas prices have risen above €100 per megawatt-hour for the first time in four years amid fears of renewed US strikes on Iran and a possible cold spell across the continent, the British Financial Times reports.
The price of Dutch natural gas for November delivery rose by 2.9 per cent to €100.30 per megawatt-hour. This level was last reached in December 2022, during Europe’s energy crisis.
US President Donald Trump suggested that the USA could resume strikes on Iran after the congressional elections on November 3, increasing the prospect of further restrictions on gas supplies from the Middle East.
Sources cited by the US Wall Street Journal said Washington had told several Persian Gulf states to be prepared for a short but intensive military campaign following the congressional elections.
