CABUL, NOVEMBER 1 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - A shooting broke out near the Torkham border crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Afghan news agency Hama Press reported, citing local sources.
Pakistani border guards and Afghan forces exchanged fire near the Durand Line, the border between the two countries that Kabul does not recognize. The shooting reportedly disrupted the return of Afghan migrants from Pakistan.
The clashes began after Afghans attempted to establish a security post along the border.
Afghan authorities have not commented on the incident. There have been no reports of casualties or damage.
Since October 19, Afghan and Pakistani military units have clashed repeatedly along the border. In a shooting near the Torkham crossing on October 28, two Afghan teenagers were reportedly killed, and one staff member was injured.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has warned that fighting near the Torkham district in Nangarhar Province poses a threat to civilians and humanitarian workers.
Torkham is one of the key crossing points for people and goods between Afghanistan and Pakistan. More than 600,000 migrants have returned to Afghanistan through the crossing since the beginning of January.
