WARSAW, JUNE 28 /SRNA/ – A temperature of 40.5 degrees Celsius was recorded today in the Polish city of Słubice, the highest since records began in the country, the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management announced.
The temperature measured in the border town in western Poland exceeded the previous national record of 40.2 degrees Celsius, recorded in the town of Prószków in southern Poland in July 1921, the Institute said.
Institute spokeswoman Agnieszka Prasek said that a new temperature record could already be declared, although the official confirmation process is still under way, TVP World reported.
According to the Institute, the city of Toruń in north-central Poland also reached 40.3 degrees Celsius today, likewise exceeding the previous national record.
The Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued its highest-level heatwave warning for most of the country, effective until tomorrow evening, with temperatures forecast to reach 42 degrees Celsius in some areas.
The new record came just one day after Słubice recorded 38.9 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous June record of 38.3 degrees Celsius set in 2019.
