BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 1 /SRNA/ – A total of 297,568 tourists visited Republika Srpska during the first seven months of the year, recording 734,087 overnight stays, which represents a 3.7 percent increase in arrivals and a 5.8 percent increase in overnight stays compared with the same period last year, read the data of the Republika Srpska Tourism Organisation.
Sanela Šimun, Public Relations Officer at the Republika Srpska Tourism Organisation, said that mountain resorts recorded a 19.4 percent increase, while spa resorts recorded 4.7 percent increase.
Other tourist destinations offering attractive features, including climate-related, cultural - historical attractions, as well as river and lake destinations, recorded a two percent increase.
Šimun noted that, during the first seven months of this year, tourists stayed for an average of two and a half days.
"As in previous years, in addition to domestic tourists, the largest number of visitors came from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro, while among other European countries, Turkey, Austria, Germany and Italy stood out," Šimun said.
She noted that, by type of tourist destination, domestic tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays at spa resorts, followed by other tourist destinations, mountain resorts, and destinations that cannot be classified into any of the aforementioned categories but offer accommodation in hospitality establishments.
"Foreign tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays in other tourist destinations, followed by spa resorts, mountain resorts and other destinations," Šimun added.
