MOSCOW, OCTOBER 9 /SRNA/ - The Russian city of Irkutsk has lifted preventive measures introduced following the death of a laboratory worker from pneumonia of unknown origin, as the epidemiological situation remains stable and poses no health risk, regional Governor Igor Kobzev said.

He said that the 28-year-old worker at the Anti-Plague Institute, who died in the city of Shelekhov on October 2, had been vaccinated and was immune to the dangerous viruses she worked with.

Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Rospotrebnadzor announced that more than 90 per cent of those who had been in contact with the deceased patient had completed medical observation and that no health abnormalities associated with infectious diseases had been detected.

Nearly 5,000 laboratory tests had been conducted, and no dangerous pathogenic microorganisms had been found, the statement said, Xinhua reported.

Two commissions tasked with monitoring compliance with biosafety requirements also confirmed that no incidents had occurred at the Anti-Plague Institute.
