CAIRO, JULY 21 /SRNA/ - Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan and other regional mediators have presented the United States and Iran with a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire, Axios reported, citing unnamed sources.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is reviewing the proposal and has urged Israel to avoid steps that could close the window for diplomacy.
However, Washington is simultaneously preparing for the possibility that the negotiations could fail.
At the same time, the Israeli military has been placed on high alert and is preparing for a possible escalation of the conflict.
The new ceasefire proposal reportedly calls for a suspension of hostilities, the restoration of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and an opportunity for Washington and Tehran to preserve the memorandum of understanding.
