WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 3 /SRNA – Reuters/ – The US House of Representatives has passed a law that would withhold federal aid from universities that boycott Israel, the latest in a series of measures backed by Republicans amid growing Democrats’ criticism of the Israeli Government.
The conflict in the Gaza Strip has sparked protests and calls to boycott Israel at numerous universities across the United States. In response, Trump launched investigations into colleges and universities and threatened to suspend federal funding.
The President Donald Trump administration and many Republicans in Congress have claimed that the protesters were antisemitic and supported extremism.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted with 237 for and 169 against the Economic and Academic Freedom Protection Act.
