JULIAN ASSANGE ANNOUNCES RETURN

SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 18 /SRNA/ - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has hinted at a return to public life after withdrawing from the public eye following his release from British custody in 2024.

The WikiLeaks account on X announced that transparency activist Assange had returned, posting a photograph of him posing in front of a mural depicting his likeness in Sydney.

Assange confirmed his return, saying that it was the first post he had personally written in eight years.

WikiLeaks became a global phenomenon in 2010 after publishing leaked footage of a US airstrike in Baghdad in 2007, in which at least 10 people were killed. In subsequent releases, Assange disclosed Pentagon and US diplomatic documents from the administrations of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, detailing civilian casualties and war crimes that had been covered up.

Under an agreement reached with Washington in 2024, Assange pleaded guilty to one count of obtaining and publishing classified US documents. He was sentenced to a term equivalent to the time he had already spent in London's high-security Belmarsh prison.
