IDEA OF INFLICTING "STRATEGIC DEFEAT" ON RUSSIA DOOMED TO FAIL

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 21 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – The results of the State Duma elections have proven that the idea of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia is doomed to fail and that the West has once again failed, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

"The idea of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia by causing internal division and splitting our society is hopelessly doomed to fail. In fact, it has always been a stillborn idea that existed only in the sick, Russophobic minds of the Euro-Atlantic ruling elite," Matviyenko posted on the MAX platform.

According to the latest results, United Russia is leading in the State Duma elections with 57.87% of the vote, based on the counting of 87.91% of the ballots.

As Russia’s Central Election Commission announced this morning, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation received 13.84%, while the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia /LDPR/ won 8.86%.

The New People party won 7.94%, while A Just Russia won 4.95%, falling below the 5% electoral threshold.

The elections for deputies of the ninth State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, were held in Russia between September 18 and 20. Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously described the elections as a very important local political event in the country.
