HAMAS TAKES FIRST STEP TOWARDS HANDING OVER POWER

GAZA, JULY 6 /SRNA/ - The Palestinian Hamas announced that the leader of the Emergency Committee has resigned, and that this is the first step towards dissolving the committee for monitoring the activities of the Palestinian Authority that serves as Hamas's government in the Gaza Strip, in order to allow the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to enter the area and take over administrative powers, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Hamas stated that technical and professional staff will remain in their jobs, in order to maintain the continuity of providing services to civilians in Gaza.

The Peace Committee, established by the US President Donald Trump, announced that it will monitor Hamas' actions, not promises, in the field of meeting the basic needs of the people of Gaza.

"A sincere handover of power must allow the Committee to carry out its mandate independently, including making administrative and management decisions entrusted to it," the Peace Committee said in a statement.

Unnamed sources said talks between Hamas and other Palestinian factions were expected to take place in Cairo in the next two days to "fill in the gaps regarding the second phase of implementing the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip".
