KUALA LUMPUR, NOVEMBER 6 /SRNA–Reuters/ – A court in Malaysia has approved the transfer of former Prime Minister Najib Razak from prison to house arrest, his lawyer said.
"Najib /73/ could be transferred home sometime today if the process goes according to plan," the lawyer added.
Earlier, Najib's party announced that it had paid the fine required under the terms of the royal pardon.
Najib, who served as Prime Minister from 2009 to 2018, was convicted of corruption in connection with the embezzlement of billions of dollars linked to a state investment fund that he co-founded.
He denies having committed any wrongdoing.
Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim agreed in September to allow Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Najib was required to pay a fine of USD 12.32 million as a condition of the pardon. According to his party, the United Malays National Organisation, the payment was made on his behalf.
