TEL AVIV, OCTOBER 12 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – The Israel Defense Forces announced that an explosion during a school trip in northern Israel was likely caused by unexploded cluster munition belonging to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
Earlier today, an Israeli teenager was killed and more than 20 people were injured in an explosion in northern Israel, near the border with Lebanon. The explosion occurred during a school outing.
“Following the explosion in northern Israel, an initial assessment indicates that it was likely caused by unexploded cluster munition belonging to Hezbollah that had been left in the area. The incident is still under investigation,” the Israeli military reported.
Students and teachers from the ORT Ma’alot religious school were on the outing.
According to Israel’s Kan television broadcaster, citing preliminary findings of the investigation, one of the teenagers found unexploded ordnance, put it in a backpack and returned to the group, after which the munition exploded.
