SALT LAKE CITY, August 19 /SRNA/ - Prosecutors in the murder case of prominent American conservative activist Charlie Kirk have pointed to the bullet used in his killing, claiming that the engraving on it is indisputable proof that the murder was motivated by hate over his political views, AP reports.
"The engraving on the bullet reading 'catch, fascist!' shows that the late Kirk was targeted because of how the accused perceived his political views," prosecutors stated.
The question of whether the accused, Tyler Robinson, acted out of political hatred could be crucial for prosecutors seeking the death penalty, or for his defense attorneys trying to rule out that possibility.
The prosecution and defense have filed opposing motions addressing whether there were aggravating circumstances in the crime that would make Robinson eligible for the death penalty if convicted.
Among these are the politically motivated targeting of the victim and whether the shooting endangered thousands of others attending Kirk's speech on September 10 at Utah Valley University.
Robinson faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, but has not yet entered a plea.
