VIENNA, AUGUST 19 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - The Russian Embassy in Austria has called on Vienna to preserve the memory of the Nazism victims and abandon plans to build an industrial zone on the site of the former Leobersdorf concentration camp in Lower Austria.

"Russia received with great concern the news of plans by major Austrian and German companies to build an industrial zone on the site of the former Leobersdorf. concentration camp," the embassy posted on Telegram.

The embassy called on the Austrian authorities to conscientiously fulfill their obligations to preserve the memory of the victims of Nazism.

During the Second World War, around 400 women and girls, with an average age of 23, were detained in Leobersdorf. At the time, the camp was part of the Mauthausen concentration camp system, where the female prisoners were forced to perform hard labour at the nearby Hirtenberg arms factory.
