NEARLY 2,000 FIREARMS SEIZED IN WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, AUGUST 19 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - Nearly 2,000 illegal firearms have been seized in Washington since the new administration took office, the US Drug Enforcement Administration said.

"A total of 1,906 illegal firearms have been seized," the agency posted on X.

It added that during the same period, 16,542 people were arrested for possessing, selling or acquiring unregistered firearms.

According to police statistics, the number of shootings has increased by 40 percent compared with last year, despite an overall decline in the crime rate.
