KINSHASA, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 6,757, while a total of 3,267 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak began, the country's National Public Health Institute announced.
"Over the past 24 hours, 71 new cases of infection and 41 deaths have been recorded, bringing the total number of infected people to 6,757, while the death toll since the beginning of the outbreak has reached 3,267," the Institute cited in its daily report.
So far, neither a vaccine nor a treatment for the new Ebola strain has been officially approved.
However, laboratory data indicate that the new "Ervebo" vaccine could provide some degree of protection.
