TOKYO, JULY 30 /SRNA/ - The death toll from an earthquake that struck Japan's Kumamoto prefecture has risen to 34, prefectural authorities said.
The BBC reports that rescuers are still searching for survivors after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Kumamoto on Tuesday, July 28.
Thousands of people displaced by the earthquake have been placed in evacuation centers.
It is estimated that about 9,000 people are in the centers, and about 30,000 households are still without power.
