WARSAW, OCTOBER 10 /SRNA/ – Three people were injured in a knife attack at a higher education institution in Warsaw, police said, making the incident the latest In a series of attacks that have raised concerns about youth violence in Poland.
"At 12:30 p.m. today, we received a report of an incident involving the use of a dangerous weapon," police spokesperson Jakub Filipiak told Reuters.
He added that one person was injured and taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
"Two other bystanders also sustained injuries, but they did not require hospitalization," Filipiak said, adding that the attacker was a 21-year-old student at the institution.
The Polish Press Agency /PAP/ reported that the victims were two 17-year-old girls and a 24-year-old woman who had come to submit documents for enrolment. Preliminary police findings indicate that the attacker and the victims did not know one another.
Police announced today that they had inspected around 50,000 sites since yesterday and detained 76 people. Authorities previously stated that most of those detained were teenagers who had made threats online.
On Thursday, October 8, a 15-year-old former student wearing a helmet camera killed a school caretaker and wounded two teachers at a primary school in Leszczydół-Nowiny, northeast of Warsaw.
The previous day, a 19-year-old injured 10 people, including himself, at a school in Ostrołęka, north of the capital.
Yesterday, thousands of police officers visited schools across the country in an effort to reassure students after knife attacks by teenagers sparked rumours of possible further attacks.
