BRIGHTON, JUNE 1 /SRNA-Reuters/ - England football player James Milner, who holds the record for the most games played in the English Premier League, announced that he was ending his career after 24 years of professional football.
He said he was happy to have experienced some unforgettable moments, from the fight for survival to trophies, playing in European competitions, as well as for the England national team in two European and two World Cups.
"But more than anything, it is about the people and friendships I have made through the game and for that I will be forever grateful," Milner said.
He stressed that he was ending his career proudly, with gratitude and memories that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
"Football has given me more than I could have imagined and I will always be grateful for the opportunities it has given me," Milner added.
Milner, 40, made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 in 2002 for Leeds United.
After Leeds, Milner played for Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, before finishing his career at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Milner made a total of 654 appearances for the Premier League, while also playing 61 times for England.
The Englishman has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during his career.
