GUČA, AUGUST 7 /SRNA/ - The 65th Dragačevo Trumpet Festival opened today in Guča and will run until Sunday, August 9, when the final competition of Serbia’s best trumpet players will be held.
The festival was officially opened today beside the Trumpeter Monument with the festival anthem "Sa Ovčara i Kablara", the raising of the festival flag, and the firing of traditional cannons.
This year’s host of the festival is the celebrated basketball player and former Serbia national team member Marko Kešelj.
The festival program begins today, while on Sunday 16 orchestras will compete for the title of the best.
In addition to the music program, the festival will offer events dedicated to traditions and cultural heritage, a Street of Old Crafts, performances by folklore ensembles, exhibitions, a competition to select the best toastmaster, and the programme "Old Dragačevo Wedding."
A special part of the event is also its gastronomic offering, where visitors will be able to sample traditional dishes from the Dragačevo region, including roast meat, svadbarski kupus /wedding-style cabbage/, homemade cheese, kajmak and proja, according to Belgrade media.
The Dragačevo Trumpet Festival in Guča has been held since 1961 and is one of Serbia’s most famous festivals dedicated to trumpet music and folk creativity.
