CHICAGO, AUGUST 7 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – Chicago police searched a funeral home in the southern part of the city after the remains of 57 people were found on the premises in various stages of decomposition, CBS News reported, citing the medical examiner’s office.

The bodies were being stored in unsuitable conditions, in rooms without refrigeration and infested with rodents and insects.

Authorities suspended the license of funeral home director Johana Morgan after irregularities in the business operations were identified, according to the report.

Residents of the neighborhood told CBS News that an unbearable odor had been coming from the funeral home for about a year.

Investigators are searching for documentation that could help identify the remains found, a process that could take several days.
