WHITE FLAGS WITH LILIES DISPLAYED DURING "MARCH OF PEACE"

SREBRENICA, JULY 10 /SRNA/ – A convoy of around 200 participants in the Bosniak so-called "March of Peace" passed through Srebrenica today. The procession was led by the flag of BiH, while some participants carried several white flags bearing lilies, but without swords.

According to the article, these flags are perceived by many local Serbs as a provocation, causing resentment and distress because they associate them with crimes committed against Serbs in this area and across much of the Podrinje region during the last war in BiH by members of Muslim armed units operating under those symbols.

The article further states that the flags evoke memories of numerous mass crimes allegedly committed against Serbs in the region by members of the 28th Division of the so-called Army of BiH under the command of Naser Orić.

No other incidents or provocations were reported.

The Republika Srpska police escorted the procession.

The article concludes by stating that the local Serb population remained calm and dignified, did not react to the procession and ignored its passage.
