BANJA LUKA, MARCH 26 /SRNA/ - The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute has warned of heavy rain and possible floods, with up to 150 liters per square meter expected to fall in some areas by Friday, March 28.

The center of heavy rainfall will shift today toward the north, east, and west, while it will weaken in Herzegovina.

The highest amount of rainfall is expected this evening, tomorrow, and on Friday morning, in the west, across the broader Banja Luka region toward Doboj and further to the east.

In that area, between 60 and 130 liters of rain per square meter are expected to fall by Friday, March 28, with local amounts reaching up to 150 liters. The largest amount of rainfall is anticipated in the broader regions of Doboj and Banja Luka.

In the southern part of Herzegovina, lower amounts of precipitation are expected.

Significant rainfall is also anticipated in the Federation of BiH.

Due to the expected rainfall, a significant rise in water levels on all rivers is expected as of tomorrow, especially in the basins of the Ukrina, Usora, Bosna, Vrbanja, Vrbas, Pliva, Una, and Sana rivers.

In these river basins, water levels are expected to reach regular and emergency flood defense levels, with the possibility of rivers overflowing their banks.

A sudden rise in smaller and torrential watercourses is also anticipated.

The rainfall is expected to weaken on Friday, while on Saturday, March 29, there will be light rain.

According to the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute, current forecasts indicate that rainfall will intensify again as of Sunday, March 30.

The Institute also says that they will monitor daily changes in the forecasted precipitation amounts, water levels, and the situation on the ground and will issue further warnings as necessary.
