BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 19 /SRNA/ – The suffering of the convoy headed by Pavle Đurišić, comprising around 15,000 Serb soldiers, civilians and clergy, along with the number of victims and the trauma they endured, represents the greatest tragedy in the history of the Serb people of Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor.
A statement issued by the Association of Republika Srpska Lawyers says that most of them were killed in Slovenia in May 1945, on Tito’s personal orders, without trial or sentencing.
This tragic episode from the final stages of the Second World War is the subject of a new book by Professor Dr Srđa Trifković, which will be presented at the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska /ANURS/ in Banja Luka on Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m.
Professor Dr Željko Budimir and Professor Dr Goran Latinović will speak about the book and its author. The event will be moderated by Academician Professor Dr Vitomir Popović, president of the Association of Republika Srpska Lawyers.
The author will then use a PowerPoint presentation to introduce visitors to certain aspects of the tragic events explored in his book, with particular attention being paid to the decision by the British authorities to hand over the Serb soldiers to the communists, despite being aware that they were sending them to death.
According to Andrija Mandić, Parliament Speaker of Montenegro, Srđa Trifković’s book is not an ordinary historical study but, as he put it, "a call to confront a long-silenced wound of our people calmly and with dignity, without hatred, but also without fear of the truth".
"One of the books reviewers, Budimir Aleksić, Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, said that Trifković book‘s offers our academic, professional and wider public an objective and scientifically grounded approach to the tragic events of late 1944 and the first half of 1945’," the statement reads.
